Construction and repair of bridges and viaducts

In order to assure a sufficient transport safety for roughly 4,000 bridges in Lithuania, it is necessary to repair at least seven hundred bridges waiting for repair.

There are 1,500 bridges alone under the competence of Lithuanian Road Administration (Lith. – LAKD) (most of them (816 bridges) are built in 1960-1980). In the next years 200 bridges require for a repair, due to their poor conditions, more than 20 bridges have restricted movement of heavy duty vehicles.

There are also 470 bridges in hands of “Lietuvos geležinkeliai” (Lithuanian Railways), from which 117 bridges are built 60 and more years ago according to the requirements that were valid back then.
